Smart energy Design Assistance Center

The Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC) at the University of Illinois, in partnership with the expertise of our collaborators at the Illinois Green Business Association, Takeout 25, Bright Beat, and Seven Generations Ahead, are offering no-cost support and foodware products for small restaurants & food-focused businesses to reduce exposure to PFAS for customers and employees.

We kindly ask you to share this grant-funded opportunity with restaurants and food establishments in your community.

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are harmful chemicals often found in the coatings of single-use foodware. These chemicals can migrate into food, leading to serious health risks such as reproductive issues, developmental delays in children, and increased cancer risk.

We are seeking restaurants or small food businesses to participate in this fully-funded US EPA grant program! Participating businesses will receive:

A no-cost foodware assessment, including cost and savings estimates.
Access to safer substitution options through regional distributors.
Up to $300 of complementary PFAs-free foodware products for testing.
Information on how to start composting food waste.
Recognition for the business’ sustainability efforts.
